A Big Summer Ahead: How Chelsea problem can help Gallagher achieve long England dream at Euro 2024
Despite Chelsea currently sitting in 11th place in the Premier League, they’ve made it to the Carabao Cup final and are set for an FA Cup semi-final next month.
Gallagher, who has been leading Chelsea on the pitch in the absence of injured Reece James and Ben Chilwell, thinks his experiences will be beneficial.
“Of course it can help,” he said, via the Mirror. “I think gaining an experience wherever in football, if it is club or international, you improve in certain scenarios and in tournaments coming up with England, gaining the experience I’ve had in the two cup competitions with Chelsea and getting as far as we have done will definitely help being in those positions.
“I’ve had to step up and be more of a leader this season at Chelsea which I’ve really enjoyed and I think that’s helped me develop more as a player as well. It always helps when you are performing well for your club.
“It is what Gareth and the others are looking at. I’ll continue to work my hardest for Chelsea and give myself the best opportunity to be in that squad.”
Gallagher played 75 minutes of England’s friendly defeat against Brazil on Saturday night. Despite Brazil disrupting England’s early rhythm with tactical fouls – West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta could easily have seen a second yellow – the hosts couldn’t capitalise, with Endrick’s second half goal the difference between the sides.
“On another day maybe he hands out another couple of yellow cards which we were maybe a bit unlucky with. We had a lot of set-pieces and maybe we could have had a better opportunity to score from that.”
