Goalie Djorde Petrovic of Chelsea has acknowledged that the anguish and sorrow of the Blues’ disappointing loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final had affected him.
Virgil van Dijk’s late goal in extra time of the Wembley match handed Liverpool their 10th EFL trophy overall, as Chelsea gave up the lead.
During the first ninety minutes of the game, the Blues performed admirably and even had some excellent opportunities to score, but they were unable to do so.
And Chelsea tried to defend in extra time, but the strategy failed miserably as everyone expected them to keep assaulting Liverpool.
In a post-match interview, Petrovic expressed his disappointment to the outcome, saying (via Evening Standard): “The feeling is very painful.”
For many of us, including here at Wembley, it was our first final.
“The atmosphere was incredible, and we could feel the supporters rooting for us.” Since this is a new generation and we want to maintain this club’s prosperity, we must make advantage of this emotion.
“It hurts and we are not happy. Everything was left on the field. The squad worked really hard, and we had plenty of chances to win the game. However, we were unable to hit the post.
We do not have enough time to prevent them from winning the trophy when we give up a very late goal. That one mistake changes everything. It is now necessary for us to focus on Wednesday.
Petrovic should be pleased with his progress since he played well for Chelsea in the championship game.
