Arsenal full-back Ben White has been slammed as “embarrassing” for his antics in the Gunners’ 3-0 Premier League win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta’s men moved to the top of the table with a convincing win at the AMEX Stadium thanks to goals from Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard.
Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City meant Arsenal lead the way at the top of the Premier League on goal difference.
With just seven games remaining, there is a feeling of confidence that the 20 year wait to become English champions could finally be over.
However, in the win over Brighton, White caused controversy for clashing with Brighton left-back Pervis Estupinan.
The 26-year-old barged into his former teammate and after the Ecuador international responded with a nudge, White fell straight to the ground holding his throat.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer criticised White for trying to get the Brighton defender sent off. After Lineker asked if they should discuss the incident, Shearer responded: “Yes we should” What a f****** joke that was man!”
Lineker then added: “What I don’t understand, play acting I don’t like and never have and I don’t get it and don’t know why players do it. But particularly now when you have so many cameras at the ground and you have VAR that are there anyway if you tried to get somebody a red card, do you not think to yourself, that is a bit embarrassing doing that?
Ben White is not the only one, lots of players do it, but I just think to myself, why would you bring that on yourself? You just look a prat!”
Shearer later went on to call White “absolutely embarrassing”.
