Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola expressed his fear of 24-year-old Arsenal player Mikel Arteta, expressing hope that Arteta will bench him against the club.

Arsenal were the big winners in the title race this weekend, claiming victory after Manchester City drew at Liverpool today.

Neither Pep Guardiola nor Jurgen Klopp could find a winner at Anfield and both had to settle for a point in the end. John Stones opened the scoring and Alexis Mac Allister equalised from the penalty spot.

It was of course the perfect result for Arsenal, as they top the table with 64 points, ahead of Liverpool on goal difference and City with just one point.

For Mikel Arteta, the pressure is now on his league-leading team and the next time the Gunners are in action, things will feel a little different.
Arsenal have been in deadly form in recent weeks, but yesterday against Brentford they came close to crossing the line.

However, Pep Guardiola was quick to point out after the game how good the Gunners were.

Guardiola praised Arsenal in an interview with Miguel Delaney of The Independent.

“We need 98 minutes to win and Arsenal need 25 minutes to win 3-0,” the Spaniard said.

Arsenal will really want to

There is no doubt that we will now challenge for the title. It has not been this close for a long time and all three of City, Arsenal and Liverpool will believe they can do it.

But Arsenal must now want to take their chances. The Gunners are in great form and they win both by huge margins and with a win like the one they achieved yesterday.

Whoever wins this season will feel that they have truly earned it.

  1. Arsenal will be happy to be at the top, but now they face a different pressure. If they can handle that pressure, they might be able to get over the line.
