As his time in Spain comes to an end, Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad appears to have made up his mind, supposedly favoring a move to Arsenal.
In spite of Norwich City’s interest and his prior connections to Manchester United, the 24-year-old midfielder seems to have his sights set on the Gunners.
Since making his Real Sociedad debut in the 2019–20 season and securing his spot as a consistent starter the following year, Zubimendi has been a noteworthy performance.
He doesn’t play with much flair, but he has a similar approach to Sergio Busquets, if not quite as good as the Barcelona star did in his prime. With 172 appearances for Sociedad and four Spain captaincy awards, Zubimendi has drawn interest from elite clubs.

Despite interest from other clubs such as Aston Villa and Athletic Bilbao, Arsenal are firmly in the driving seat to secure Zubimendi’s services. However, any transfer is unlikely to happen this month due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, which necessitate a summer move.
Additionally, Arsenal would need to pay the buyout clause in a lump sum, a financial hurdle that may require player sales to overcome. With manager Mikel Arteta also eyeing a new striker, the Gunners are considering options like Ivan Toney from Brentford, although the hefty price tag of £100 million could pose a challenge.
As Arsenal continue their pursuit of Zubimendi, securing his signature would represent a significant coup for Arteta’s side, bolstering their midfield with a talented and promising player who could make a substantial impact in the Premier League.
