Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided his thoughts on what Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola will be thinking about the Premier League title race.
Sunday’s action involved all three title rivals with the Reds moving top as they came from behind to beat Brighton just hours before Arsenal took on Manchester City.
The Gunners entered the clash as underdogs however they left the fixture perhaps disappointed they were only able to come away with a point.
An impressive defensive display saw Man City limited to just one shot on target with substitute Leandro Trossard going closest to scoring the winner.
After the game, despite most fans finding the game boring and uneventful, Arteta made a shocking admission when asked for his thoughts.
“It was a really thrilling game,” he said in a press conference. “A really tough match. Very demanding opponent.
I think we competed really well. Defensively we were outstanding. We had to go and put them under pressure high up the pitch.
“It’s three years since they haven’t scored at home so that tells you the outstanding team that they are.
The downside is that we had some situations to score. We didn’t make the most out of it. I think the next step is to have the composure with the ball in the first phase to attack better.”
Despite beating Brighton, Klopp was also critical of his side’s attacking output with the Liverpool boss going on to make an honest Guardiola and Arteta admission.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “There were so many top performances today – yes, the finishing boots were not exactly fitting but it’s not a problem, we scored two and conceded one, and won the game so all good.
“I can promise you neither Pep or Mikel are in the dressing room at the moment thinking ‘oh my God, Liverpool won’ – they focus on what they are doing, we focus on what we are doing.
“We follow, we watch what the others are doing but we have no influence. We have to win football games – I would love to say it is great to put pressure on them but they don’t feel it – if they win a game and then we are playing, it’s not as if we are shaking before the game, we just have to do a job and we will see. We wanted three points, we got them, perfect.”
