The manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, has long thought that Mikel Arteta will do well at Arsenal.
After working together for a number of years at Manchester City, Arteta became one of Guardiola’s assistants after he retired in 2016. After Unai Emery was fired in December 2019, Arteta took the helm at Arsenal once more.
When Guardiola asked Arteta if he wanted to take over as Gunners manager in March 2020, he responded with great support and complimented him on his tactical abilities.
Guardiola declared, “I was confident he would take over as manager when the time was right and it was a chance for him.” “His positional play is improving, and the team has already adopted his ideas. Arsenal will undoubtedly be superior.
Four years after making these remarks, Arteta has turned Arsenal into a side that may challenge Guardiola’s City for the Premier League championship, and the two have since grown enmity, according to The Mirror. The Gunners are in a close contest this season despite trailing City by five points the previous year.
The current gap between Arsenal, Liverpool, and City is just one point, and earlier this month, Guardiola made a suggestion that he believed Arteta’s team to be more formidable than Jurgen Klopp’s. “Arsenal are already there,” Guardiola remarked prior to last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool.
“Last season they were the biggest rivals, not Liverpool. And look how they still play. Liverpool need 90 minutes to win games, sometimes more than 90 minutes. Arsenal only need 25 minutes to win.”
Mikel Arteta’s men will prepare for a big game in the Premier League when they take on Manchester City at the end of the month, and young Bukayo Saka remains positive about their chances. He shared his thoughts with TNT Sports and said confidently: “We can [beat City].
“Right now we are top of the table and in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but we have the international break ahead of us. That gives us a lot of momentum and belief that we can go to the Etihad and get a good result in these games.”
With Arteta at the helm, Saka’s prediction could soon come true according to Guardiola’s predictions.
